How do you know you are taking part in a completely fruitless trial that isn't going to have the least bit of an effect on the life sentence you are already serving? Can't say I know from experience, but I would say YOUR representation referring to you by a different stereotypically Spanish last name is a pretty huge sign. Judging by the laugh they shared afterwards I'm pretty confident that the defendant in question is already fully aware of his inevitable fate, but there's no bigger reminder of how fucked you are than someone whose job responsibility is to be meticulous and thorough getting your family name wrong. That's not to say I haven't mixed up a 'Hernandez' and a 'Rodriguez' in my day, but it is to say that I haven't done so with a double-murder conviction at stake. I mean, one less fuck given and we're talking about a criminal defense lawyer completely ignoring his client's identity and calling him 'Pedro Sanchez'. If I were the judge I would have slammed the gavel down before this video even came to it's conclusion. I probably would have stood up, summoned the bailiff, and screamed "if you're not going to take this seriously than neither am I!". Justice be damned. Just slap another lifetime on to the end of his sentence and be done with it. Maybe he did it, maybe he didn't. I do know that debating it for days on days end isn't worth the time if the person arguing on his behalf can't even differentiate his birth certificate from any other Latino within state lines.
