The reality of this situation? Well, obviously I don't know for sure, but if I had to guess I would say that Hue Jackson had extensive talks with Chad Johnson about what his role within the organization would be multiple times between March 9th and July 11th. Unfortunately - due in large part to Ochocinco's incessant need to be a showman that wanted to make it look like he got an NFL coaching gig with nothing more than a couple of tweets - that's not how it's going to be perceived by the general public. When your a team as familiar with abject failure as the Cleveland Browns it's never good to look like you are hiring washed up, enigmatic wide receivers to your staff after they offered up their services as frivolously as that Facebook friend that you stopped talking to well before he decided not to to go to college. If Hue Jackson, with the help of his new "route running assistant", can win games with whatever warm blooded waste of life they plan to put under center then none of this matters. However, until they do they can't expect people not to laugh at the thought of Chad Johnson essentially deciding who he wanted to be employed by without so much as submitting a resume. Even if they are coached by his former coordinator the fact that he chose the Browns is an indictment of their instability as a franchise, and the fact that they obliged might as well be a social media casting call for every mildly interested former player to come try their hand at mentorship. Might be nothing more than a employment based on familiarity, but it reeks to the highest heavens of "same old Browns".
