Fox News- Students at a small Pennsylvania college are demanding that administrators rename a building called "Lynch Memorial Hall" because of the racial overtones of the word "lynch."
The building is named after Clyde A. Lynch, who was president of Lebanon Valley College from 1932 until his death in 1950. Students want administrators to either rename the building entirely or add Lynch's first name. It was included on a list of demands that students presented on Friday. Others include a more diverse curriculum and more sensitivity training for staff. School spokesman Marty Parkes said Tuesday that officials are considering all of the demands and will address them at a forum next month. Parkes calls Lynch a "very important figure" in the college's history. When did college students become insufferable? Scratch that, they have always been insufferable. When did they become insufferable for rallying around every social cause that they perceive as mildly race related, instead of just being insufferable for being drunk, high, and fucking in public places? I understand that there are people that are sensitive to the word 'lynch', whether that word just happens to be the last name of a former University President or not. You know who those people AREN'T? Eighteen to twenty-two year old kids that just happened to read what that word's connotation USED to be in a history book once or twice. How about you guys just leave the race wars to people that know what racial tension looks like, instead of trying to formulate it on your own like it's some sort of class project? All things considered, the name 'Clyde A. Lynch' should be considered a testament to black culture, not an insult to black history. It's pretty much the same thing as Marshawn Lynch. The blackness of the first name evens out any potential prejudice of the last name. Now, the main difference is obviously that Clyde was a white fellow, but the point remains. If you got a black name and you do great things as a man with a black name, it shouldn't matter if you are caucasian or African American, they should be able to put said name on the side of a building without criticism. You know how I know that 'Lynch Memorial Hall' isn't an offensive name for a cluster of classrooms? Because past generations, that were undoubtedly far more familiar with what a reprehensible act lynching was, passed through those very halls without once thinking about picketing outside of it's doors. I thought it was bad when kids were getting creative with their drug use, but it appears the new fad is getting creative with their race baiting, and that's far worse for society than young adults overdosing on molly. Wait until these shitheads, that want to ban every word or name that, at one point, may have had a racially ambiguous meaning get out into the real world and realize they missed their opportunity to drink themselves into a coma every night. I bet Clyde A. Lynch loved black people, and they probably loved him just the same, so do yourselves a favor and do enough molly to tarnquilize a small calf, because discrimination will always exist. You don't have to waste the best years of your life worrying about creating new forms of it. If the following is your text book then please put it away until further notice, because college is supposed to be a constant party, not a constant protest...
