Okay fine, that headline is a little bit misleading. The reason why Joel Embiid is the best thing going actually has nothing to do with basketball. I mean, as far as I can tell from the limited highlights I have seen he appears to have developed his game during the two years he spent NOT playing it, but it's his personality that should have all eyes on Joel Embiid. Not saying he won't develop into a formidable force in the (extremely crowded) middle of the Sixers lineup, but - above all - the man is a showman. A performer. If there is a league that embraces it's employees quirks it is the NBA, and their newest IR returnee has them by the truckload.

​So it would be great if he was able to display his talent on the floor while Ben Simmons does exactly what 'The Process' entails by nursing a lower body injury for the entirety of a season, but I would easily settle for watching Joel Embiid piss off his peers by doing dumb shit all year. Some will say he doesn't have the track record to be talking shit to more experienced players on social media. Some will even say that he's making a mockery of the sport by trying to dap up his opponents mid-game. To those people I say, go watch baseball. Another electric entertainer is exactly what basketball needs, and - regardless of what he provides between the whistles - Joel Embiid is just that. At the very least he'll provide the Philadelphia faithful some hearty laughs, and - unlike year's past - they won't even have to totally be of the self deprecating variety.
