BREAKING NEWS: Keenan Lewis is officially BACK...to doing shirtless calisthenics at the nearest playground while it's usual inhabitants are eating their 'Lunchables'...
Honestly, is there a player that can better withstand the backlash that one receives from pseudo-catfishing a former teammate in an attempt to get him to publicly talk trash about another former teammate than the cornerback that has been out of the league for a full season after getting cut from a team that was in desperate need of defensive backs at the time? I'm just going to sit here and update the transaction ticker, because surely it will only be a matter of minutes before an NFL team identifies that elementary school and interrupts Keenan Lewis' own personal recess to give him a job. The real loser here is the guy that is nonsensically trying to leverage his way out of one of premier passing attacks in the entire NFL a year before he's set to become a free agent. I don't know what the person that was allegedly Michael Thomas said on a hot mic while getting busted by a one-man sting operation, but I would imagine it's not worse than having Keenan Lewis babble incoherently on your behalf. Brandin Cooks was already receiving criticism for failing to see just how good he has it in New Orleans and now he has to fight off an association with an unemployed idiot who is spending the eternal "offseason" that has become his life playing on monkey bars and wiring his social media accounts for evidence of dissension in a locker room where he no longer has a stall? This situation is a bad look for ALL parties (including the organization that's undoubtedly going to have a more difficult time flipping the focal point of a complete clown show for a first round pick) involved, but only two of those parties are currently unhappy with their working conditions and now their appears to be a strong likelihood that neither will be on next year's roster. Michael Thomas ( whether or not it was him on the phone) and Willie Snead IV could have undoubtedly handled this mess much, much better. However, I consider it a blessing that the rookie that performed like the savviest of veteran and the undrafted free agent that has developed into a reliable target will continue to wear the black & gold, while the injury prone snitch and the high maintenance malcontent that couldn't handle a slight bump down the depth chart will soon be someone else's concern. I'd rather not have Junior Galette-style social media squabbles become an annual occurrence, but if they inevitably rid the Saints locker room of players that don't want to be there in exchange for premier assets then the results could be - and have been - far worse.
