The cheap shot:
The escalation:
The (interrupted) response: “He doesn’t want to talk to you anymore. Move away from him. He doesn’t want to talk to you anymore. He’s emotional right now. You win. You guys win. This what you guys want to see? You want to see him act in a certain way? Move out the way. He’s done. The man was disrespected. People threw food on him. He’s not an animal, he’s a human being. So get out of here. He’s a human being. How would you like it if one of your kids was playing sports and someone threw beer on him? Exactly. So don’t come here with that (expletive) then. He’s here. What else do you want to ask him? He had beer thrown on him.” - Michael Bennett -------- Well I'll be damned if that's not the most fitting ending to a situation that turned far too messy far too quickly. Michael Bennett - whose cheap shot incited the riot-like atmosphere - fighting off reporters who wouldn't even be huddled around his teammates' locker if it weren't his own senseless attempt at injuring a opponent in a game that was already over. He got the ball rolling downhill and juuuust as it was losing steam he was there to put a stop to it and bring it full circle. In the same way that an arsonist that offers to help clean up the ashes is a humanitarian, Michael Bennett is a real hero. With all undue respect to the cowards that were launching beer, soda, and food from the (presumed) safety of their own seats, Michael Bennett managed to come away from the ugliest of scenes looking like the biggest of jackasses. He may have disappeared for the chunk of time in which a bunch of inebriated fans showed their true colors as detached morons and his fellow defensive lineman displayed uncontrollable rage, but best believe it was his shameless disregard for the well being on another human being that he shared the field with that spurned the entirety of that stupidity. I'm sure those reporters would much rather people throw beer at their children than try to dislocate their knee caps, and - though both are inexcusable - that's how the literal and figurative hurling of disrespect every which way begun in the first place. You know, I used to think the Bennett brothers were just two unfiltered characters that kept the sport fun by way of their over-the-top personalities that made way to harmless trash talk. Unfortunately, there seems to be a theme of them intentionally starting shit and immediately pointing the finger at others. I'm not going to make any assumptions about the police brutality allegation, but between this and Martellus Bennett trying to ruin the stellar reputation of a team doctor simply because he didn't want to play in Green Bay anymore? Ehhhhh, that credibility is taking an unceremonious dive quicker than Michael Bennett when he gets a wittle mad about wosing a game to Bwake Bortles.
