From Clippers locker room last night: one player raves about Knicks' Porzingis, compares him to Dirk. Paul Pierce counters with Bargnani

You know who Paul Pierce is? He's the NBA equivalent of your old racist grandmother. You know how grandma thinks every black person is going to steal her pocketbook? Paul Pierce just thinks every European basketball player is going to be a soft, jump shooting, bust that will offer nothing to the league. I can't even blame him. Paul Pierce has been indoctrinated to believe that Euro's are inferior. He's been grandfathered into that close minded way of thinking. Now sure, Paul Pierce respects Dirk Nowitzki, but that's a different story. They came into the league together. He's been around Dirk for the entirety of his career. You know your grandma's nice African American neighbor Willie? That's who Dirk is to Paul Pierce. He's proven himself over time. Just like Willie has helped your grandma take the trash out without stealing her TV, Dirk Nowitzki has won championships and maintained a level of greatness in the NBA. They are both "not like the rest of them" if you catch my drift. Grandma doesn't think of Willie as black, and Paul Pierce doesn't think of Dirk Nowitzki as German, but that tolerance has been built up over decades. Without that trust, every black man strolling through the neighborhood is OJ Simpson, and every European basketball player drafted high is Andrea Bargnani. Open mindedness isn't for people at the end of their life or players at the end of their career.

I got to be honest, I don't know how good Kristaps Porzingis is going to be. I have only watched him sparingly. I know Knicks fans are already balls deep on his potential, which is good because when he was drafted they all wanted him hung from the world's tallest ceiling fan. Regardless, the last thing I am going to do is take a desperate fanbase's word for it when it comes to one of their players. Especially when that desperate fanbase resides in New York, a city that is thirsty for even the smallest of basketball achievements. So for know I stand with 'The Truth'. Kristaps Porzingis might very well be the next Dirk Nowitzki, but until he proves otherwise, he's Andrea Bargnani to myself and Paul Pierce.
