The Fact That There Was A Loaded Gun Found In Will Smith's Car Says Very Little About Will Smith4/12/2016 FOX- Former New Orleans Saints star Will Smith had a loaded gun inside his vehicle on the night he was shot, but there was no evidence that it had been fired, police said Tuesday.
In a statement, police shed new light on the shocking death of the New Orleans football legend who was shot and killed Saturday night. Police have said that Smith and his wife were shot by Cardell Hayes after Hayes bumped Smith's vehicle from behind. Police also said Tuesday that they found a loaded revolver inside Hayes' vehicle. But authorities said there was no evidence to suggest either weapon was fired during the Saturday shooting and said that Smith's gun was fully loaded when found during a search of the vehicles Tuesday morning. Police said Hayes shot Smith with a different handgun. "During the argument, Hayes produced a .45 caliber handgun and opened fire, striking Smith and his wife. No one else was injured in the gunfire," police said in the statement. Smith's wife was shot in the leg but survived and was taken to the hospital. I said yesterday i wouldn't be surprised if Will Smith had a gun in his possession for the protection of him and his family, so I am not going to act shocked by this news and neither should you. What you shouldn't take away for this new tidbit of information is that Will Smith is some thug who was out there looking for a reason to unload said gun. This isn't an indictment of the deceased, it's an indictment of the exceedingly violent culture in New Orleans. It speaks to exactly what Sean Payton discussed at length yesterday. The reason Will Smith had a loaded in his car is the same reason that he is now no longer with us. It's because there are people in New Orleans driving around the city with multiple higher caliber guns, and willing to repeatedly use them on someone that doesn't think brushing up against the spare tire of their Hummer is enough of a reason to stop. I wish we could turn back the clock and Will Smith could have pulled over after making contact with another motor vehicle like he should have. Maybe it would have saved his life, maybe it wouldn't. That's something we'll never know the answer to. What we do know the answer to, however, is whether or not the lack of gun control has reached obscene levels in the city of New Orleans. The sobering answer to that question is what we should be focusing on instead of (possibly unintentionally) implying that Will Smith was the victim of a duel gone wrong, because that's not fair to his family, or the hundreds of others that have spoken out on behalf of his character.
