This scares me. This truly scares me. I have no problem with the NHL taking steps to makes sure the game is called the right way, especially in the playoffs. I do have a problem with how obsolete they are making officials. Having two linesman already seems like overkill, and the implementation of new cameras and vastly superior, high definition technology isn't going to make them any more necessary. It won't be too long before the amount of referees assigned to a game starts to dwindle, and with it so will the amount of scapegoats. I don't want to live in a world where there aren't four officials constantly getting in the way and becoming an easy target for my direct criticism. If anything I want to add a 5th, so I can say they are even more oblivious and stupid when they miss a borderline penalty that most definitely doesn't jive with my ridiculously subjective viewpoint. There's nothing worse than lambasting a referee for blowing a call only to see a closeup, slow-motion replay prove you completely and utterly wrong. As Winston Churchill once said, "perhaps it is better to be irresponsible and right, than responsible and wrong". I care about being right way more than I care about being responsible, and that is getting jeopardized with each and every camera that is being installed to help referees reinforce their decisions.
