I think we just got a little glimpse into what makes the life of an Athletic Director so stressful. Forget worrying about budgets, resolving scheduling conflicts, marketing the University, and making public appearances, because the ultimate wildcard will always be the players and their tendency to say dumb shit. I don't know this for sure, but I imagine that LSU has dumbed down their "how to handle the media" handbook to a list of words NOT to say, and 'free' absolutely has to be the first one on that list. Just think about how much anxiety you would have if every single morning you woke up and the first thing on your schedule - above your actual responsibilities - was to check if there was any proverbial fires that needed extinguishing. You'd probably never get a solid wink of sleep in your life. Look at this case for instance. Chances are what Leonard Fournette said isn't acknowledging anything illegal. He probably was just referring to his education and his meal plan. However, given the scandal ridden landscape of college football there's just no way the word 'free' gets said in passing without needing to be addressed. It's the middle of July, we are easily still a month and half away from any meaningful football taking place, and LSU's AD is getting urgent texts looking for a response to his most notorious player's use of the most implicating of words in regards to his program. It truly is no rest for the weary.
