I know I said just yesterday that crying has become far too common in professional football. I know I said that players are starting to let their emotions get the best of them just a little bit too often. With that said, Drew Brees welling up here is completely justified here. This isn't Matt Hasselbeck playing with a tummy ache. This isn't Odell Beckham Jr. tweaking a hammy twerking after a touchdown. This could potentially be the untimely demise of an era. We are in mourning here folks. When the most optimistic athlete the world has ever seen has been brought to tears by his team's performance than you know a real tragedy has taken place.
Do you need more evidence than this picture. Sam Bradford is holding Drew Brees' hand the same way you would hold your mom's hand at your grandfather's funeral. It all just fits too perfectly not to be symbolic. Look at Bradford's face. The next thing out of his mouth is 100% going to be "are you...are you crying?". Bring him in for the real thing Sam! The guy needs a fucking shoulder to cry on for a second. You should know what it's like to feel like the world is crumbling around you because of something that happened during a football game. This is why Brees was so happy after an unimpressive win against the Cowboys. He was just trying to convince himself that things weren't as bad as they are. Beating the Cowboys was like your bed ridden grandmother going to the bathroom on her own. It gave us, and more specifically Drew Brees, a false sense that everything was going to be okay. It's not Drew. Let the tears flow. Accept the inevitable. It's all part of the grieving process. This season has been so fucking terrible that it has broken the unbreakable. First it was physically, and now it's emotionally. This is like when you are a little kid and you see your dad cry for the first time. You don't want to believe that he is vulnerable to the same kind of emotions. You want to think he is a superhero that can handle every situation with ease. It's only during the most trying of times that you realize that he's just like you, and times don't get more trying than getting blown out by a 1-3 Philadelphia Eagles team. Where in the fuck is Morgan Freeman at? I'm calling on you brotha. Drew Brees needs somebody to lean on. In fact, we all do.
