BSO- When recruits visit games, they are identified by a lanyard which is worn around their necks as opposed to a ticket. In this case, Johnson and his brother went to the concession stand and returned to see their mother being approached by an officer who said that she had to leave because she had no ticket. According to Johnson, who showed the officer his lanyard, the officer “felt as though we had forged those badges and we didn’t belong in the game”. Johnson then told the officer that he would decommit because of it, to which the man responded that he “wouldn’t care because he would still have his job if I went there or not”
Take notes Missouri. If you don't want the black contingent of your football team to form a mutiny and boycott games because of racism on campus then just let them know how prevalent racism is on campus before they even enroll. If cops were just wandering around during Missouri football games escorting every physically imposing African American out of the stadium then nearly every recruit would already know what he was getting himself into. Not saying it's right that this kid, his brother, and his mother were kicked out of a Georgia Tech football game, but it's probably better off for both parties long term. Georgia Tech will have one less kid that is outspoken when he is discriminated against, and Jordan Jackson can go to a more accepting university. That, my friends, is how you avoid having the President's of Universities getting strong armed out of their position of power.
Let's not act like this was some misunderstanding. If a person who is big enough to be a high level offensive lineman recruit at a major D1 university has a pass to be at a game then he probably didn't forge it. It's not like this kid was a 5'7 half-white wide receiver. He's got the stature of one of those people you walk by at the airport and say to yourself "I wonder what sport he plays for a living". I could see this kid at the grocery store and I would assume he was headed to play college ball, never mind with a lanyard around his neck at an actual sporting event. Pretty sure every person that I have ever seen with lanyard around their neck was too important for me to approach. Even if it was forged I would have given this kid the benefit of the doubt. If you put that much effort into attending a Georgia Tech football game then you deserve box seats and catered buffet once you get in there. So yeah, I definitely believe this cop that tossed Jordan Jackson and his family out of the building was a racist douchebag, but he's a racist douchebag that this kid won't ever have to worry about dealing with again. I bet the current members of the football team would love to have been given this kind of heads up before they laced up their cleats for a school that apparently employs bigots. Live look at the President of Georgia Tech...
