DailyBeast- When a high school basketball player told his coach he was being bullied, his tormentors retaliated by brutally raping him with a pool cue.
While the freshman lay bleeding in the hospital and the three bullies sat behind bars, the Ooltewah, Tennessee, high school varsity basketball team kept playing. Despite the fact their coach drove the victim to the hospital and the school said it was investigating, the team wasn’t sanctioned. Instead, it was allowed to play three more games before the season was canceled. On Thursday afternoon, the coaches and the school’s athletic director were charged and may join their players behind bars. “Coach [Andre] Montgomery is culpable and so is the assistant coach, Karl Williams,” a source close to the investigation told The Daily Beast. “This doesn’t stop with the kids.” “That’s when the first round of the attacks happened,” the source said. “The coaches left the kids for two hours to go grocery shopping. How do you expect the house to be standing after being left alone for so long, even with the best of boys?” They “started out on the freshmen in the downstairs basement,” a source close to the victim said. “All of the freshman got the pool cue...” That included the boy who would later have “holes in his pants” and need surgery for the sodomy. Can someone please tell me how these types of things happen? I grew up playing youth hockey. I have hazed a kid or two in my day. Maybe made them drink excessive amounts of alcohol. Made them do stupid petty shit like rag pucks as a form of initiation. Pretty sure we even tied a freshman to a chair just for the fuck of it one time. You know, just little things that can bring a team together while still enforcing the hierarchy of seniority. When did that process begin to include anal rape? Anyone? Can someone tell me what's fun about sticking a fucking pool cue up a freshman's asshole? Is there some like super exciting part that I am missing? As far as I know I wouldn't want to witness anyone get force fucked with a pool stick, even my most hated of enemies. That visual, in and of itself, seems absolutely horrifying, no matter who the recipient is. Getting a teammate drunk and watching him try to function is funny. Making him cry and bleed profusely from the anus is not. I don't know how anyone - that's not the focal point of a 'Criminal Minds' episode - could think otherwise. Furthermore, how does that become learned and accepted behavior? The whole point of a locker room is that it should, to some extent, be able to legislate itself. You know what is a good idea and what is a bad idea based on the general consensus that you get from your teammates. What the hell is in the water in Ooltewah, Tennessee that multiple kids were like "yes, I agree that puncturing the colons of freshmen with a billiards stick sounds like a justifiable form of togetherness". Is the South that different, or did this basketball team just happen to have three of the most disturbed individuals on the same roster? If this is the direction that youth sports are heading in I would appreciate it if someone would let me know now so I can encourage my child to me a gay ballet dancer. Obviously the coaches are culpable and extremely negligent in letting it get as bad as it did, but what happened to the landscape of high school athletics that sodomy has become a very real concern?
