A Pro Choice Organization is Upset That The Dorito's Super Bowl Commercial Humanized Fetuses2/9/2016 CNS- NARAL Pro-Choice America chose to live-tweet its response to commercials broadcast during Super Bowl 50 on Sunday night, but touched a raw nerve with many after complaining that an ad featuring a baby during an ultrasound amounted to “humanizing fetuses.”
The ad portrays a lively unborn baby on an ultrasound screen reacting with enthusiasm to the Dorito-munching expectant Dad’s packet of snacks. Each time the husband moves a chip towards his wife’s belly, the baby on the screen makes a lunge for it. When the annoyed Mom throws a chip across the room the baby, to everyone’s consternation, decides to make an early arrival. NARAL’s response: “#NotBuyingIt – that @Doritos ad using #antichoice tactic of humanizing fetuses & sexist tropes of dads as clueless & moms as uptight.” It's about damn time someone stood up for the vast majority of sexually active people that don't want to take responsibility for what they do with their penises and vaginas. Have a little respect Dorito's. Can't we all just kill our unborn babies in peace without being reminded that they are only a birth canal away from becoming our peers? Keep your satirical promotional tools to yourself. How are people supposed to feel okay about shelling out a couple hundred bucks to have a life prematurely ended when they just watched a fictional representation of that life eating seasoned potato chips on television during a football game. I should have known that Dorito's was an anti-choice snacking brand. Just trying to make sure as many children as possible are being brought into this world to stuff their gullets with cheap, addictive grub when their parents are too irresponsible to actually nourish them. It's like we can't even get frito-laid anymore without making some unspoken commitment to raising the potential result of that penetration. In all seriousness, I am pro-choice. I don't like the idea of aborting a baby, but I also know that if I accidentally impregnated someone tomorrow I would look at the subsequent ultrasound like it was a picture of myself in a casket. So yeah, out of selfishness I do support a person's decision to kill a fetus. However, the people that do kill fetuses should be reminded as often as possible that they killed a fetus. They should be forced to get a dead baby tattoo in the middle of their chests upon getting -or paying for- an abortion. They should have to feel bad about it so it deters them from more unprotected sex in the future. I am glad that Dorito's gave pregnancies a personality. Hopefully that will teach the people that unceremoniously end them how to pull out in a timely manner like adults. Grow up NARAL. I understand your right to kill unborn babies, but not without the corresponding remorse. I hope everyone that has ever paid for an abortion had a pit in their stomach watching that commercial. I hope the thought that they would likely now have a child that would love potato chips crossed their mind. I don't think Dorito's was pushing some ridiculous anti-abortion agenda, but I respect their decision to do so if that's how they -as a company- feel. Plus, when your organization promotes prenatal murder it's tough to justify standing on a soapbox.
