I hate that it had to come at the expense of the mental health of Nahikara Garcia, who somehow managed to miss a blatantly wide open net down one in extra time of a championship game, but that shot just proved what women's sports enthusiasts have been saying for years. While they might not be as athletically gifted, the participants are just as talented as their male counterparts. I know that might seem disingenuous considering the play in question, but I would love to see a man try to casually loft a ball over the crossbar from that close to the goal line in the pouring rain. She definitely didn't mean to do it, but if you're telling me the trajectory of that shank wasn't one of the more impressive things you've ever seen on the pitch then you are flat out lying to yourself. People think the average man could legitimately compete amongst the creme de la creme of female athletes? HA! No chance I could kick that ball anywhere but the back of the net. If I was trying to defy physics, geometry, and every other form of relevant science by trying to put that ball into the first row I would flat out embarrass myself. Might even end up crying tears of shame into my jersey just like this chick. So she lost her country a gold medal, big deal. She undoubtedly won them a spot in the 'Not Top 10'. If there's no such thing as bad publicity then Nahikari Garcia just did more for women's soccer than she would have if she casually tapped in a gimme of a game tying goal.
