YardBarker- Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians is clearly not a fan of the St. Louis Rams and even goes as far as to call their NFC West rival “that team we don’t like.”
But exactly how much does he dislike his divisional foe? “I’ll have dinner with ’em, but I ain’t liking ’em,” Arians said Wednesday, per Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. “I ain’t drinking with ’em.” Though, Arians did show praise for the Rams head coach Jeff Fisher and defensive coordinator Gregg Williams. “I respect the heck out of them. It’s been a great game every time we’ve played since we got here. It’s a big division game.” You know what I just learned about Bruce Arians. I learned that not only would I like to break bread with the man, because let's face it he looks like he's eating good, but I would also like to bust open the good bottle of scotch with him. There's a reason that having a beer with someone, and not a sandwich, is the ultimate sign of adoration. Think about it, you'll pretty much eat with anyone. You have to eat to live, but you have to drink to enjoy living. You play the game right and you don't even have to talk to someone you eat with. Maybe look at the menu a little longer after you already know what you want. Schedule an extended bathroom visit right before the food shows up. Conveniently shovel another bite down your gullet when the person your with looks like they are set to get chatty. There's no escape when you got a libation in front of you. You are bound by the contents of that glass. No one willingly puts themselves in a position where their drink is a burden instead of an asset. When you start a job you don't hesitate to go out to eat with your new co-workers day one if they ask you to, but you aren't going to happy hour unless you are sure you actually enjoy their company. If I'm in town and an acquaintance wants to get together we are going right to the local burger spot, not the local watering hole. What do you do if you're not sure if you want to go out with someone? That's right, you ask to get an early dinner. You wait until after to determine whether you want to get late drinks. The ultimate curve is turning down drinks with someone after you just shared a meal. If someone doesn't want to get that truth serum in the system when they are with you then they may respect you, but they sure as shit don't like you. Bruce Arians and Jeff Fisher are contemporaries. They should appreciate each other, but they don't have to approve of each other. I always got a good vibe from Bruce Arians, probably just because of the Kangol hats, but knowing that he thinks in terms of cocktails has really solidified my thoughts on him as a man. That's the kind of guy I want in the foxhole with me...topping off my glass.
