ABC-Caitlyn Jenner will be honored at the ESPYs this summer.
ESPN announced today that Jenner will be awarded with the Arthur Ashe Courage Award at the awards show on July 15. "In the past few months, the overwhelming outpouring of support from all over the world for my journey has been incredible,” Jenner said in a press release. “However, being honored with this award, which is named after one of my heroes, is truly special. For the first time this July, I will be able to stand as my true self in front of my peers." Let me start by saying I have absolutely no issue with the athlete formerly known as Bruce getting a sex change. Congratulations Caitlin. Whatever makes you happy. Is it overkill that surgically removing a dick got her one million twitter followers in a day? Yeah, it probably is, but that speaks more about us than it does her. Now with that said, why are we giving her an award? And a sports award no less? The last time she was relevant in the world of athletics was when she was a he. The last time Jenner stepped foot on a completive playing surface was 40 years ago. The only people that should be earning awards 40 years later are dead. I'm just going out on a limb here, but I don't the Arthur Ashe Courage Award has anything to do with Caitlin's Olympic pedigree. For some context, let's take a look back at the previous winners of the award. Michael Sam, the first openly gay man to play in the NFL. Robin Roberts, an ESPN sportscaster that survived a bone marrow transplant and valiantly defeated cancer. Pat Summitt, the most decorated female coach of all time who has been dealing with Alzheimer's the past few years. Dewey Bozella, a professional boxer who spent 26 years in prison for a crime he didn't commit. Now ask yourself, does Caitlin Jenner undergoing surgery and finally accepting who she is 40 years after her athletic feats fall into the same category as those people? I put off starting a blog for like 3 months and I considered myself a pussy, but this guy puts off accepting herself for 65 years and she's fearless? Fuck it, I'll say it. I don't even think this is the most courageous thing a member of her family has done. Hell, Khloe Kardashian is still married to a crack head. How's that for courage? How's that for winning a staring contest with criticism? Kim had a baby with a sociopath. That may not be courageous, but it's sure as hell risky. Bruce Jenner undergoing a sex change at 65 isn't courageous. Now if this operation had happened 10 years ago? Now that would have been courageous. That ship has sailed. Transgenders are in. People are constantly looking for new forms of sexuality to embrace and accept. Bruce becoming Caitlin is as courageous as me wearing skinny jeans in public. Everyone is fucking doing it. Furthermore, this isn't some middle class American who is risking his livelihood to put a vagina inside himself. It's an old, retired millionaire who happens to like wearing dresses and pushup bras. Give me a break. I'm still not convinced this isn't his way of stealing all the limelight from his children. If we are supposed to start treating transgenders equal the why are we throwing a nationwide party for one? Bruce Jenner isn't the first person to go under the knife and come out with tits, he's just the first person to do it and come out with tits that look like they belong on someone 30 years younger. She is 65 for Christ's sake, this decision could have just as much to do with senility as it does courage. P.S. Can't wait for the first transgender in the NFL. Please still be alive when that happens.
