Marques Johnson, current TV analyst for the Milwaukee Bucks, the Kings' Monday opponent, was critical of the original plan and relayed a conversation he had with Cousins before the decision was made to cancel the planned giveaway.
“I walk into the building and DeMarcus Cousins calls me over to an animated discussion he’s having with Kings operations people,” Johnson wrote on Facebook, via ESPN. “He ask me, ‘Olskool, what you think about this T Shirt? Told him a little insensitive on 1st day of Black History Month’. They pulled the shirts…” Live look at DeMarcus Cousins...
MVP! MVP! All Star Game? Who cares about an All Star Game? Most Valuable Player. Most Valuable Personnel. DeMarcus Cousins isn't just a premier big man in the NBA, he's a public relations wizard. He took time away from dominating in the post to saving the Sacramento Kings from a goddamn tidal wave of negative publicity. Talk about a multifaceted talent. 56 points one week, and making note of an ill-advised African American/monkey affiliation the next? He's gone from the source of all the controversy to a goddamn peacemaker. Who else could have possibly picked out that random not-so-subtly racist connection on the first day of Black History Month? No wonder there was so much animosity between him and George Karl. DeMarcus Cousins apparently has all the qualifications to run the entire franchise, who could blame for feeling like he was being held back? I know it's been made mention that DeMarcus Cousins' current contract is a bargain, but even that's starting to seem like an understatement. The guy is basically the starting center and supervisor of the marketing department. No wonder he looks so agitated all the time. He's under an extreme amount of stress working two jobs to save the Sacramento Kings from themselves. Imagine if the front office wasn't blind to the stupidity of their employees and DeMarcus Cousins could just go back to focusing on basketball. The sky would be the limit in terms of his potential. You see how quickly he found the distastefulness in those shirts? At the very least it's pretty clear that his offensive awareness is at an all time high.
