See! Adrian Petersen tried to tell you that spanking was viewed differently in the African American community! Too soon? Yeah, I know. I'll just see myself out. This does kind of highlight the racial aspect of spanking though, no? Not that I think it's okay for a black parent to literally whoop their kid's ass, and it's not okay for a white parent. I am not touching that subject with a ten foot pole. I just find it hilarious that we can chuckle when an older black coach like Dusty Baker references spanking a young white player like Bryce Harper when there is no way the opposite would be true. Can you imagine the reaction if Terry Collins said he was going to spank Yoenis Cespedes? I would bust out in tears of laughter, but my best guess is that everyone in the actual room would be stunned to silence. Obviously the fact that black people are inherently funnier and have the biological ability to deliver a joke has a lot to do with that. Especially since elderly white males have an inclination to make everything they say sound slightly more offensive. I guess what I am trying to say is that I got a giggle out of Dusty Baker's one-liner at the expense of his boy "Royce", but just envisioning the shoe being on the other foot is making the media members in my mental image feel extremely uncomfortable.
