YardBarker- Eugene Robinson, the Carolina Panthers radio analyst, basically told players not to pull a Eugene Robinson before the team left Charlotte on Sunday.
Robinson, a safety for the Atlanta Falcons at the time, was arrested for trying to pick up a prostitute who turned out to be an undercover police officer the night before Super Bowl XXXIII in Miami. Earlier that day, Robinson won the Bart Starr Award for “character and leadership.” According to The Charlotte Observer, Robinson gave the Panthers a speech advising them to avoid such entanglements during Super Bowl week before they traveled to the Bay Area for Super Bowl 50. I guess it's not an unimportant lesson to learn. Don't pay for sex within the 24 hours prior to playing in the biggest football game of your life. You know, they don't talk about that enough. I mean, it's only happened once...to one single player...during the previous 49 years of Super Bowl history, but it still happened. Better safe than sorry, and I don't just mean that they should make sure the sex they have with their hooker is protected. I think my only question is whether or not NFL players even have pussy on the mind with the Super Bowl on the horizon? It seems very possible that the Panthers players would have never even thought of paying for sex as a viable way to relieve their anxiety if Eugene Robinson didn't tell them about the time he did it. A lot of these guys are young, impressionable dudes in their early 20's. I bet a bunch of them weren't even listening to his tale of trials and tribulations. They probably just got caught off guard by the word "prostitution". Who's to say that didn't plant a dangerous seed in their head? Who's to say they won't just find the nearest street worker strictly because they were told not to? They were all just sitting in their rooms with a gun in their waistband and Eugene Robinson just reminded them that it's loaded. It's easy to take your mind off sex...until someone mentions sex. Eugene Robinson tried to block their cocks and he may have inadvertently guided them to precarious pastures. This speech should of consisted of him telling the Carolina Panthers the benefits of pregame masturbation, not the disadvantages of illegally sleeping with women of questionable character. Talk about a hurdle they never even knew they had to get over. Jesus Christ Eugene, you shouldn't be adding obstacles when the players are already having enough trouble navigating through Super Bowl week. I doubt the advice of a former player that embarrassed himself off the field and on the field is going to have any influence over players that are preparing for the opportunity of their lifetimes, but if it does it just might have the undesired effect.
