Metro- A man who downed ten pints, sexually harassed female colleagues and told his boss to f*** off has won an unfair dismissal case after he was fired.
The outrageous scenes unfolded at a Christmas party (where else?), an employment tribunal heard. The team leader at a road building firm, who has not been named, was sacked in January. But interestingly, the Fair Work Commission (FWC) ruled that office conduct cannot be maintained at parties where alcohol is available. MORE: Drinks company print ‘help me’ on their bottle caps as a joke… not everyone finds it very funny Adam Hatcher, FWC vice-president, said his party conduct was ‘isolated and aberrant in nature’. The ruling has spooked firms down under, and it could lead to a ban on alcohol at future work functions. Alright, alright, so the sexual harassment is a bit much, but if a few asses have to get grabbed in the process of putting an overzealous boss in his place than so be it. At least it wasn't the boss doing the harassing, for once. Quick question, are the laws on workplace etiquette in Australia the same as the United States? Can't be, right? I only ask because I find it hard to believe this is the first time we are hearing of a man keeping his job after telling his boss to 'fuck off'. Alcohol would have been banned at work functions decades ago if that were the case. This should happen at least once at every single Christmas party. There isn't a boss in any office, of any company worldwide, that hasn't needed to be put in his place once or twice. Plus, is it even party if someone doesn't get too drunk and yell some shit that they absolutely mean, but didn't want to say out loud? What's the point of even having alcohol at events if you're not going to use it as liquid courage? I bet this guy was sitting in court fumbling through Monster.com for a new job when the judge announced the ruling and he almost choked on his water. "Uhhh, come again your honor? Did you just say that I won?". Part of me really feels bad for him. Once you win a case after telling off your boss there is nowhere to go but down. There's just no chance you don't think your invincible after something like that happens. It's like surviving a plane crash and then getting run over while jay walking. When you defy the odds so greatly they are sure to come back around and bite you in the ass. Especially when your boss and co-workers hate you, and a judge and jury just ruled that your most reckless behavior was allowable by law. You don't go back to being a hardworking, respectable employee after you literally tried to get fired and failed. It's only a matter of time before his boss finds a legitimate reason to fire him, and if we are being honest it's probably sooner rather than later. Still a huge win for little guys. Suck it Goliath.
