How Nice Of The Lakers Not To Punish Swaggy P. For Nearly Blowing Himself Up With A Firework...7/7/2016 LBS- According to a report by Mark Medina of the LA Daily News on Wednesday, Young will not face discipline from the Lakers for his fireworks incident over the holiday weekend.
At a Fourth of July party on Monday, Young foolishly picked up a live explosive which then went off in his hand (video here). Fortunately, he managed to escape any injury. “You would hope that things like that don’t happen,” Lakers head coach Luke Walton was quoted as saying after summer league practice on Tuesday. “Professional athletes kind of need their hands. But I’m glad he’s okay.” Those Lakers...I'll tell ya, just a super understanding bunch manning the corporate boxes at the Staples Center. Nick Young nearly jeopardizes absolutely nothing but his own health by almost blowing his hand/head off, and their willing to let him off with a stern warning? Isn't that the type of organization we all wish we worked for? One that acknowledges they could take money out of your pocket for your transgressions, but also agrees not to out of the goodness of their heart? Sure, it's widely known that Swaggy P. is in the midst of getting cut faster than Johnny Manziel's cocaine, but that's not why they decided to let a blatant act of stupidity go unpunished. They did do because they are first class franchise that takes care of it's athletes at all costs. Even if that cost is a buyout to make sure the surefire future inductee to the 'Darwin Awards' Hall Of Fame ends up as far away from a promising young locker room as possible. Of course they are happy he's okay. It's exponentially harder to fire a basketball player because he's disfigured than it is to fire him because he's just not any good at basketball. He should consider the lack of a fine part of his severance package, because - near death experience or not - he and his demons were bound to be excommunicated from the City Of Angels.
