Next Impulse- Manny Pacquiao returned to the Philippines on Wednesday and the boxer reiterated that he thinks that he beat Floyd Mayweather during their May 2nd bout in Las Vegas.
Although Mayweather pretty much dominated the fight using stupidly effective Floyd Mayweather tactics, Pacquiao stated that he reviewed the tape and found that he should have won the match by two points. “I reviewed the fight and kept score. I won by two points, but a decision has been made and we have to accept it.” The 36 year old also spoke about the whether he’d want a rematch with Mayweather: “I [would] like that. I want that. But my focus right now is my shoulder, my work as a congressman and my family.” Who says Manny Pac hasn't learned anything from American culture over the years? What's the best thing to do after you have been proven wrong? Double the fuck down. Look at Tom Brady for instance. Dude, is just sticking to his guns despite all evidence pointing to the contrary and he has an entire legion of New England foot soldiers standing behind his every word. He's not totally guilty if there is still a considerable amount of people that don't believe he's guilty. Same thing as Pacquiao. As long as Manny keeps reiterating that he thinks he won he will have an entire nation of people behind him agreeing with that sentiment. Doesn't matter that he didn't even come close to winning. If you can get enough people to question the outcome then the outcome is still somewhat in doubt. Boxing isn't a sport like hockey, or basketball, or football where it's easy to count up the points scored and determine an outright winner. It's a sport predicated on a judge's opinion. Who's to say those judges had the right opinion? I mean, I think they did, but I think any and every filipino person on the planet would rebuke that claim. Look at Floyd's press clippings since the fight. First he wanted to fight again, then he didn't because Manny is disrespectful, now he is talking about how he would beat him 100 times out of 100. Clearly Pacquiao's denial of the truth is getting under his skin a little bit. If he didn't care at all he wouldn't take 5 seconds out of counting his money on an Instagram video to even address Pacquiao. Remember all those middle school fights where no one would ever admit they lost, or the arguments with your friends where one side is clearly right, but the other party refuses to give in?Do you know how annoying those can be to the person that is actually the winner? Those can eat at a man's soul, ya know, if Mayweather had one. Go ahead. Tell me that when you read "I won by two points, but a decision has been made and we have to accept it” that you didn't start replaying the fight in your head round by round. Tell me that you don't want to throw it on the big screen and bust out your own personal scorecard. Manny could tell me every morning for the rest of my life that he won and he still wouldn't be able to convince me, but all it takes is a seed of doubt. May as well try to make that seed blossom into a legitimate theory. It's not like he has anything to lose while he recovers from shoulder surgery.
