I Respect The Republican's Attempts At Cutting Down On The Amount Of Abortions

Think Progress- Among the new abortion restrictions being imposed by GOP-controlled legislatures this session, a clear trend is emerging: New laws that significantly lengthen the period that women must wait before they’re allowed to proceed with an abortion.

Abortion waiting periods typically require women to receive state-mandated counseling about abortion, then wait a set amount of time before they may have their procedure. Proponents typically say these policies are necessary to give pregnant women more time to think about such a serious decision.

Dozens of states have already enacted waiting periods. Traditionally, these laws have required a 24-hour wait between the counseling session and the abortion procedure — but now, lawmakers in several states are working to make the requirement even more stringent, lengthening their waiting periods to force patients to wait multiple days.

This week, for instance, North Carolina became the latest state to approve a 72-hour abortion waiting period. During the debate over the proposed three-day wait, some of the measure’s sponsors explicitly said they hope lengthening North Carolina’s waiting period from 24 hours to 72 hours will prevent some women from choosing abortion. Gov. Pat McCrory (R) has already promised to sign it into law.

Listen, I don't like people getting abortions, but I also have never impregnated anyone (that I know of) so it would be disingenuous of me to say that I am pro-life. With that said, if the radical Republicans that value the life of every single sperm want to make it super inconvenient to get an abortion then fine by me. You want to have irresponsible unprotected sex then you are going to have to work around the clinic's schedule, not the other way around.

First it was legislation banning abortions after 20 weeks, and now women have to wait at least 72 hours to get one after making their final decision that they want to do so? You sly ass Republicans. I see what you guys are doing. Close the window little by little and more people are sure to miss it.  Soon women are going to start having babies because they slept through their abortion alarm and they aren't schooled in the art of wire hangers. You really want an abortion? Good. The offices are only open on Mondays at 6AM and you have to schedule your killing a year in advance. Bet you won't be so quick to frivilously spit on it and tell him to put it in now huh? Abortions should be like 'Black Friday' shopping or getting an iPhone the day it's released. You should be given a small window and have to wait in ridiculous, time consuming lines. You shouldn't be able to procrastinate getting your abortion like it's spring cleaning or laundry day. You really want to get rid of that kid it better be number one on your priority list. Simply a genius move by the conservatives. The only thing people value as much as their freedom is their time. So you have to make sure they sacrifice their time to maintain their freedom. Don't make abortions illegal, make them inconvenient. If I know anything about irresponsible people it's that they are just as likely to fail to pull out as they are to miss an appointment and end up with an unwanted child. Those abortion numbers will go down quicker than my ex-girlfriend.
