Uproxx- On Monday night, one of the best matchups of the entire NBA regular season is taking place when the Golden State Warriors roll into Cleveland for the first time since beating the Cavaliers for the NBA title back in June. Understandably, Steph Curry remembers it fondly:
“Obviously, walking in the locker room, it’ll be good memories,” Curry said Sunday. “Hopefully, it still smells a little bit like champagne.” And even if it wasn’t meant as a challenge, LeBron James was listening: When LeBron James finished up his media address after shootaround this morning, he walked away asking reporters why no one asked him about Curry’s comments. He said he had an answer for it. Sources also told cleveland.com that some Cavaliers took the quote as “disrespectful,” so tonight just got more hyped. Yikes, if the Cavaliers thought the recollection of the aroma of high end bubbly that will forever stain their upholstery was "disrespectful" then I wonder how they feel about the smell of human excrement? Only asking because the Golden State Warriors pretty much rubbed their faces in shit for the better part of three hours last night. I don't really know when professional athletes started getting butt hurt over a light ribbing, but I guess that's just an indictment of the increased level of sensitivity of even the most physically imposing athletes nowadays. God forbid Steph Curry didn't take LeBron and Co. feelings into account when discussing the championship he won in their building. I guess I didn't realize how highly the Cavaliers valued manners. I wonder if they were expecting them to say "please" and "thank you" before and after every basket last night. Those Cavaliers, they may throw up a stinker now and again, but I'll be damned if they aren't considerate in the process. I wish I could say the same for the Golden State Warriors. Those big old meanies. Always reminiscing over the scents they experienced during their fondest of memories. Talk bout inconsiderate. Don't they realize that they had an opponent that had to feel despair at their expense? Come on Golden State, for there to be a winner there has to be a loser and sometimes losing makes people sad. Maybe you should take that into account next time you want to discuss the past. Umm, Mr. James, quick question. Was that performance last night the "answer" you were referring to, or was that more of a prophetic thing? Will I know the "answer" when I see/hear it, or was the worst home loss in your entire career the extent of it? I'll give you this, if that was the finality of your response then it certainly was surprising. It was shocking in the way a failed proposal in a public forum is shocking, but it was still astonishing nonetheless. Equal parts embarrassing and entertaining if you ask me. Oh well, look on the bright side, at least there was no champagne this time around...
