CBS- At least five teams have called the Blackhawks to express their desire to be a potential trade partner for star winger Patrick Kane, the Sun-Times has reported, in the wake of a rape investigation surrounding his actions in in the early morning hours of Aug. 2 in Hamburg, N.Y.

Kane hasn’t been charged in the case as officials with the Hamburg police and the Erie County District Attorney’s Office continue to investigate. It’s also not yet known if the image-conscious Blackhawks are seriously entertaining the idea of trading Kane, but it doesn’t appear they’ll lack suitors if they choose to go that route.

The Blackhawks open training camp Sept. 18 and will be faced with a big decision of what to do with Kane on that date if the investigation is still ongoing then. They have remained almost completely silent as the investigation is being conducted.

Do you need anymore of a sign that sports are a business that is completely disconnected form reality than this story? The average fan is just sitting there, rummaging through the 'facts' of the case, wondering if Patrick Kane is actually guilty of rape. Meanwhile, NHL executives are RUNNING to their phones to offer up anything they can to bring him on board their team. It's actually incredible. If you are thinking like a business man the only thing that a rape charge did to Patrick Kane was make him more attainable. Just sitting in a conference room like "I don't care what you have to give up, I want that sexual predator running my power play!". Do you know how good you have to be to not even garner trade offers until you're an alleged rapist? Patrick Kane was the belle of the ball that was too beautiful to ask for a dance. Go figure that it was his potential sexual misconduct that made him seem more approachable. This is like asking the hot girl in high school to go to prom with you a week after she breaks her leg in a car accident. Simple economics, buy low.

You know when you are trying to make a trade in fantasy football so you bring up all the negatives about the player you are attempting to trade for?Just trying to lower his potential trade value by talking about his fumbling epidemic? I imagine NHL teams on the phone with Blackhawks management trying to convince them that Patrick Kane raped this chick. Talking about the bite marks on her shoulder and the scratch marks on her leg. Bringing up all the problems that he's had with drinking in the past. The only people more outspoken than her lawyers about the legitimacy of her claims are the General Managers of NHL franchises. Don't get me wrong, they don't hope that he's guilty, but they hope to God that the decision makers in Chicago think he's guilty. Just win baby! Doesn't matter if you have to have potential criminals on your team to do it. Ask the Chicago Blackhawks if they would trade their three Stanley Cup Championships in five years to make this rape charge go away. Sorry ladies, but I think we all know the answer to that.
