Source- India, probably the world, will get its first transgender college principal when Manabi Bandopadhyay takes charge of Krishnagar Women's College in West Bengal on June 9. Manabi is currently associate professor in Bengali at Vivekananda Satobarshiki Mahavidyalaya.
"This decision was taken by the College Service Commission. I don't interfere in their decisions. They are aware of our open mind. I am happy with this decision," state education minister Partha Chatterjee said on Tuesday. Technical education minister Ujjal Biswas, who is chairman of the college governing body, said: "We were in need of a principal with a strong personality to run the college smoothly." Welcoming the decision, Rattan Lal Hangloo, vice-chancellor of the Kalyani University to which Krishnagar Women's College is affiliated, said, "Manabi is a fine human being, a good academician and an able administrator. We are hopeful her appointment will empower other members of the transgender community." I am not going to lie. I have been rather critical of the transgendered community. Not because I don't think they have a right to choose how they want to live, but rather because some members would rather not choose and try to remain the beneficiary of the positive aspects of both genders. I don't think that transgendered people deserve less than everyone else. I just think they are taking advantage of their ambiguous roles in society. Having said that, a college principal is the absolute best job that a transgendered person could possibly have. You don't owe me an explanation India. I'm on board. I think every he-she, she-he should hold a position of power in the school district. Men and women are old hat. Sorry you gender identifying simpletons, but we have got to get biological men and biological women away from our youth. Think about all the problems associated with student-teacher communications. Male teachers aren't sympathetic and understanding enough, and women can sometimes be taken advantage due to being overly sympathetic. Not anymore. If students know that a transgendered disciplinarian has/had a penis they will respect 'his' gumption and authority. If they know a teacher has/had a vagina they will feel comfortable expressing themselves around 'her'. Gender-neutral principals are the new 'hot ice', it's the best of both worlds! Upset City baby! India coming in hot and beating us to the new wave of progression. Looking back on it, I'm not entirely sure one or two of my teachers weren't 'bigendered', but let's be honest, it doesn't really count if you don't identify as such. P.S. Hey India, what the fuck is a college principal? You're progressive enough to be putting transexuals in your schools, but still haven't considered the concept of a Dean? This might just be a perfect way to get all the good publicity of having a transgender in a position of power without actually giving her any responsibility. As far as I am concerned a college principal isn't even a real job.
