NOLA-  New Orleans Saints fans might finally need to hang up their No. 25 Bush jerseys for good.

The departure of safety Rafael Bush appeared to end an era in which the Saints had a player with that number and surname combination, starting with running back Reggie Bush from 2006 to 2010.

The Saints played the 2011 season without a Bush at No. 25 and claimed Rafael Bush off waivers in 2012. He wore No. 25 for the next four seasons, before he signed Saturday with the Detroit Lions.

That gave Saints fans with a No. 25 Bush jersey a player to support in nine of the last 10 seasons.

You know what's fucked up? My first thought was "oh, that sucks". Not just because Rafael Bush was a decent backup for a secondary that was a primary concern last year, but because fan's Reggie Bush jerseys finally became antiquated after 10 years. Then I thought about it for a second and I started to envy these people. Not only did they get to justify wearing the same jersey for a full decade, but they can pretty much justify wearing it forever now. They don't need my sympathy. Reggie Bush's career is all but over and his biggest accomplishment - a Super Bowl victory - came in a Saints uniform. Those jerseys just became a collector's item. They will officially never be outdated. They remained relevant during two different player's stints in New Orleans, and they immediately became retro. I am not shedding any tears for them. They bought the jersey of an injury prone running back in 2006 not even knowing that it would end up transcending time. Meanwhile, I bought a Jimmy Graham jersey immediately after he signed a 4 year contract and it didn't even last one full pregnancy. That's right, new born babies have a longer life span than that $100 dishrag. These bastards hit the memorabilia jackpot. I don't need to see all their tweets rubbing my poor player selection in my face. If you exclude the jersey of Drew Brees, they made quite possibly the best purchase in New Orleans Saints history, and there's something to be said for that.

P.S. Not totally against signing any old 'Bush' off the street for the league minimum under the condition that he wears the number 25. You know, just in case Reggie signs somewhere else and his jersey isn't considered nostalgic just yet.
