If there was going to be one person that would tweet something relatively harmless and then instantly delete it, Jonathan Martin is absolutely the guy. There is nothing wrong with saying football is just a game. It is just a game. A game that is the centerpiece of a billion dollar industry, but a game nonetheless. At the end of the day, even if an NFL salary has you thinking different, football is not life. It's a sport whose athletes happen to get rewarded handsomely for putting their bodies on the line on a weekly basis.
So no, Jonathan Martin's statement wasn't incorrect, but much like everything else that has happened during his underwhelming and over publicized career, the way he handled it was. Stick to your guns for me one time Jonathan. At least act like there's a pair of balls where that jockstrap used to be. First it was the inability to handle a little bit of hazing, and now you won't even stand behind your own words. This guy isn't out of the NFL because of the threat of "being in a wheelchair at 50", he's out of the league because he's too much of a pussy to handle the atmosphere that comes with playing a man's game. Say what you want about the dumbass things that a lot of football players say on twitter, but for better or worse, most of the time they own what they put out onto social media. Martin is the guy that has no friends because he just tries to be friends with everyone. He's the guy that will say what he thinks and then instantly apologize for it if it hurt even one person's feelings. He's the guy that would rather everyone get along, even if it makes for boring, monotonous conversation. You are never going to fully avoid controversy in life. Especially when you are a person that ruined a man's career, whether rightfully or wrongfully, by snitching on him. If you are going to tuck your tail between your legs every time someone is mean to you then, much like the NFL, Twitter probably isn't the best place for you. There's something to be said for having an opinion and sticking to it despite scrutiny. Make no mistake, that's why this tweet was deleted. A bunch of nameless, faceless Twitter handles that think the only meaningful part of life happens on Sundays between September and January were giving Martin a bunch of shit about not being able to handle the NFL lifestyle. That tweet fell victim to the same fate as Martin's short NFL career. Sticks and stones didn't break it's bones, but words straight up murdered it in cold blood.
