Keenan Lewis' "Confidence" In His Health Couldn't Possibly Have Me More Worried About His Health8/14/2016
NOLA- Keenan Lewis came off the physically unable to perform list for just one practice before sitting out the last week. And he thinks the setback is for the best.
"Actually, I look at it as a blessing," the New Orleans Saints cornerback told NOLA.com on Friday evening in a phone interview. "It could've been much worse if I would've went out there the next day. So, I'm glad that I went out there, tested it out, figured out what I needed to be fixed, took the right protocol and went and got hooked up with the right people to help me fix it." Lewis said he's dealing with an adductor strain in his hip related to the January surgery he had to repair a sports hernia. Rumors have been swirling with Lewis being hurt again, but he said he has every intention of playing as much as possible in 2016. "I ain't (going on) IR," he said, alluding to the possibility of starting the season on injured reserve. "That definitely ain't my plan. I worked too hard this offseason. I stayed in New Orleans the whole time and grinded. So, offseason is definitely not on my calendar or in my notebook." Well, I can't help but think that aggressive little blurb had the undesired effect. Ironically enough, I couldn't possibly be more concerned about Keenan Lewis' health and it has almost everything to do with the fact that he felt the need to defiantly declare that his health isn't a concern. Don't get me wrong, the fact that the Saints just signed an aging corner seemingly out of nowhere to replace the hole his absence has created in the practice lineup had my brow furrowing. However, it is the outright assertion of the state of his well-being that's causing me to think that he was about as certain of his lower body durability as Derrick when he Rose out of bed this morning. To put it pseudo-intellectually, reassurance is the most commendable form of denial. To put it bluntly, people that are truly healthy don't feel the need to contentiously defend their fucking health. That's not to say that Keenan Lewis is a liar. In fact, it's actually a credit to him. After he played with a body part that resembled a kneein anatomical location only, I have no choice but to believe that he's the type of person to get his leg blown off in combat and literally die before admitting that he needed medical attention. Dude would probably make the worst doctor of all time. I bet if we took a gander in his medicine cabinet we would just find a couple handfuls of dirt. I certainly hope I am wrong, because Keenan Lewis is a selfless, veteran leader that provides a top notch skill set and a wealth of knowledge to a group of defensive backs whose virgin ears are as wet as my taint in the summer sun. Still, I have my doubts. Not just because the Saints offseason has been wayyy too positive thus far, but because Keenan himself showed that he does too by denouncing a completely ambiguous outcome with the passion of someone that's trying to convince their friends that their divorce was a mutual decision.
