Two Minutes, Well Worth It

Let's Set The Record Straight, There's No Way Adrian Peterson Plays Football Until He's 40

BSO- According to ESPN, Peterson is on pace for the fifth-best season ever by a 30-year-old running back. AP, however, believes he can continue to defy the odds. He hopes to play for 10 more years.

“If God’s willing, I’ll just be able to walk away from the game at the highest level whenever I decide,” Peterson said.

Peterson is always optimistic about his skills, potential and ability. We all remember a few years ago after his 2,000-yard season when he said he could rush for 2,500 yards. It’s definitely a big stretch, just like how he can play until age 40..

“I think if I’m blessed to play [that long], I’ll get a feel. I think I’ll go off my gut feel,” Peterson said in August. “I think I can play for a long time, but I’m just going to take it one year at a time and see how I feel, because I did enjoy myself, realizing how much I was missing, as far as my kids. Just doing simple stuff, taking them to school, picking them up, that was fun to me. I missed that. Unfortunately, it’s during football season. So that could bring my career to an end earlier than expected.”

Hey Adrian, your presence is no longer needed. I got this one for ya. Okay, so what's the question? Can Adrian Petersen play until he's 40 years old? I guess that answer depends entirely on what he's actually playing, but if we are talking about running back in the National Football League then the answer is FUCK NO. Why you ask? Oh, I don't know, maybe because he's already played an entire life's worth of games as a 30 year old halfback. Whats the male life expectancy in this country? 75ish? Asking Adrian Petersen to play another decade in the NFL is like asking your grandmother to live another 75 years. He would have to play out two whole careers to play that long, and he's already on borrowed time. He should be getting on his knees and praying every night that he doesn't wake up the next morning with a chronic soreness in both of them. That's just how the most fickle position in the most fickle professional sports league works. One minute you're an unstoppable athletic freak, and the next minute Father Time is dragging you down from behind and serving you a dose of humility.

Know who else probably thought they could play until they were 40 years old? Shaun Alexander when he was winning MVP awards at 29 years old. 365 days later he was out of the league because the football Gods finally recognized that the clock had struck midnight on his career. For Adrian Petersen to play until he's 40 he would have to wake up and defy the odds 3,600-something days in a row. He's already playing with house money, but those pockets will run dry eventually. The guy is an athletic marvel, but let's worry about this one game at a time, because expecting Adrian Petersen to know if he will playing football at 40 is like expecting me to know what I'll be doing on November 5th, 2065.
