Larry Brown Sports- ESPN anchor Linda Cohn was burned by a hot mic during an episode of “SportsCenter” on Thursday.
Cohn must have been having a conversation off air about NBA free agency, because when the show re-joined and went live, she was caught on-air talking some trash about the Brookly Nets. “You know who hasn’t done a damn thing (in free agency)? You make fun of the Knicks, but what about Brooklyn?” Cohn said. Aww, that's cute Linda. That's a nice selective use of a team that Knicks fans have continually dubbed their little brother franchise. When the Nets first moved to Brooklyn you considered them insignificant and a non-factor. Then when they traded for Joe Johnson, Paul Pierce, and Kevin Garnett in an attempt to be relevant and field a championship caliber team they were considered a bunch of try-hards. Try hards that were actually far better than the Knicks, but try hards none the less. Now, because it's convenient for Knicks fans, you want the Nets to share the spotlight? Now, when the Knicks are the laughing stock of the league, their fans want to point to a team they didn't even used to acknowledge to take some of the pressure off themselves? That's not how it works sweetheart. Let's play a little game. Which team is run by the all time winningest head coach in professional sports? Which team made a run at high profile free agents, DeAndre Jordan and LaMarcus Aldridge, and failed? Which team offered a max deal to Greg Monroe and got passed over for a chance to play in MOTHERFUCKING MILWAUKEE?! Which team tanked all year and won two games by accident only to end up with some 7 foot European white boy in the draft? Which team plays in the 'Mecca of basketball', yet hasn't won a championship in over 40 years? Which team is destined to be a lottery team again next season yet doesn't have a first round draft pick? Which team is building around a enigmatic superstar that's more concerned with what silly hat he should wear postgame than with playing winning basketball? The answer to all of those questions is one and the same. Linda Cohn mentioning the lack of moves the Nets made is like someone standing next to a forest fire and trying to direct the attention to a lit cigarette in a parking lot. It's like being involved in an 10 car pileup and pointing at the broken down car across the highway. Say what you want about the quality of the Nets roster, but it's still far better than the Knicks. Not for nothing, but despite not making huge push during free agency the Nets still signed more talent in Brook Lopez and Thaddeus Young than the Knicks did in Aaron Afflalo. You can criticize a lot of the moves made by the Brooklyn front office, you just can't do it from a talent barren Garden in Manhattan.
