Sporting News- Class of 2018 Miami commit Al Blades Jr. took a trip to Florida State and did something that's definitely not recommended. The young lad threw up the Hurricanes' "U" right on the Seminole. Fearless. Some Seminoles would even call it crazy.
The recruiting process is already hard enough on an 18 year old kid. So many offers, so many things to consider. So I have no sympathy for a University when they try to make that process harder by scheduling a visit from another school's commit. I understand why they do, but with that visit you accept certain risks. A kid could have already made up his mind. He could be using you for couple a couple 5 star dinners, maybe for an opportunity to pilfer your players, and possibly a viral photo of himself throwing up your rival's salute while standing on the heart of your logo.
I highly doubt Florida State is too upset by this. After all, during the course of the last two years they have lost one game. Meanwhile, Miami's last meaningful game was broadcast on standard definition television. However, you still have to respect the loyalty this kid shows. A move like this is the only way for a player to fight back against a system that is so university friendly. Coaches can skip out on their contracts at the drop of a hat, but a player can't leave a program when he receives false promises without sitting out a full season? And that's just one of many problems plaguing the legitimacy of the NCAA. Once you get in to the system you certainly can't receive any monetary benefits, might as well scalp a bunch of universities for all they are willing to give you while it's still legal. Plus, with the current state of social media a good viral photo is worth it's weight in gold.
P.S. If you are hosting a recruit don't you think it's a good idea to, oh I don't know, keep an eye on him?
