NJ.com- The Genny Barbour who would arrive at school was docile, attentive and pleasant. The Genny Barbour who would step off the bus at the end of the day was irritable and aggressive. On the worst days, her arms would be covered with self-inflicted bruises from trying to escape the chair used to restrain her.
Roger and Lora Barbour of Maple Shade say they know what was happening to their 16-year-old daughter, who has epilepsy and autism: her medicine was wearing off during the school day. The problem is that Genny's medicine is medical marijuana, and school officials say it's illegal to administer it to her on school grounds. "She could have Valium or oxycodone, but not medical marijuana. Other children can take their medicine. My daughter cannot," Roger Barbour said. "My daughter is a citizen of this state, and this is a violation of her state and federal constitutional rights." "She could have Valium or oxycodone, but not medical marijuana. Other children can take their medicine. My daughter cannot," Roger Barbour said. "My daughter is a citizen of this state, and this is a violation of her state and federal constitutional rights." In August, Genny began taking an eye dropper-sized dose of her mother's homemade cannabis oil in a small glass of cola in the morning, after school, and before bedtime. The number of seizures diminished, except in the afternoon. Her doctor recommended she also take a fourth dose with lunch, according to her medical records. "There has been a total change in my daughter," Lora Barbour said. "She is more of a person." Weed, weed, the miracle cure. Drop it in your eye, as long as it's pure! You know what? Fuck this school. I'm so sick of these stick in the mud organizations taking hard stances against marijuana use. Get with the times people, marijuana is mainstream. You're telling me this girl can take valium on school grounds, but can't use her marijuana eyedrops? You realize a prescription drug like valium has a far better chance of being abused than eyedrops, right? Remember the last time you used an eye dropper? Nope, you don't, because it's fucking terrible and you have been avoiding it since you were 10 years old. It's not like this girl dropping highly toxic liquids in her eye is a pleasant experience. It's a necessity. It's not like she's going to be slinging dime bags of eye drop medicine all over campus? It would be one thing if she needed to hot box the janitor's closet to avoid being a problem in school. She could pop those drops in and no one would be the wiser. Get the fuck out of here. I am not even a frequent marijuana user anymore, but I realize how prevalent it is in society. I realize how beneficial it can be in certain situations. This isn't some California stoner waltzing into a doctor's office and getting a medical weed license for the headaches he has twice a month. This is a girl that has a very real problem, and the use of marijuana happens to be a very real solution. So, this school district is sacrificing the ability of an entire classroom to learn to take a stance against drug that is legal throughout half the continental United States? Good....Gooooood. Not like the entire point of a school is to educate our youth or anything. I would much rather they be in the business of deciding which doctor prescribed chemicals can and can't be used to calm their students. With the state of our youth, I don't even care if they are high during school, It's not like it could possibly make them any dumber. Whatever drug abuse helps them learn better and become functioning members of society is fucking fine by me. If a little body high is keeping them from walking into oncoming traffic while snapchatting then I'll buy the reefer for them. If only these straight edge losers at Maple Shade felt the same. I bet they were a blast to hang out with during college... P.S. Note to every school district out there. Saying 'no' to the parents of someone that suffers from autism is a good idea 0% of the time. I don't care if she wanted to start tying off in the principles office everyday. Just call it a loss and move on.
