Raw Story- Florida sheriff’s deputy has been fired after an investigation showed that he ignored a 911 call from a woman having a heart attack so that he could finish his pizza lunch, according to WZVN.

Lee County Sheriff Mike Scott fired Yvan Fernandez following an Internal Affairs report that showed that the deputy acknowledged the emergency call from dispatch before returning to his pizza, even though he was not on an official meal break at the time.

The report states that Fernandez was having lunch with three other deputies at Raider’s Pizza and Wings when he first took the call, responding to a second call from dispatch 8 minutes later, telling the dispatcher “copy.”

Fernandez then reportedly went back to eating his lunch before passing off the call to another deputy 30 minutes later.

Deputies arrived at the home where Minnis was staying, 53 minutes after the initial call, to find the woman lying in her walkway unconscious with the phone next to her. She later died.

There are some things in life that can't be interrupted. Eating pizza is undoubtedly one of them. Cold pizza is great if it has been in a fridge for a day or two, not when it is riding shotgun and dripping grease all over the passenger seat while you drive to save a dying woman. Don't get me wrong, this man deserves to fired, but not because he didn't put down his pizza to investigate a 911 call. This man deserves to be fired because he was a reckless pizza eater.

You simply can't enjoy the finer things in life while you aren't on an official break. Why do you think pizza is so commonly enjoyed as a late night snack? It's because there are rarely any interruptions. Hell, when I eat pizza I don't see, hear or acknowledge anything else. I wouldn't be surprised if this guy has no recollection of saying 'copy'. He probably just said anything that would make the conversation end so he could continue to enjoy his extra cheese. When you are a cop, especially one that isn't on break, it is in your job description to be on call. You want to grab a few slices when someone is covering for you? You have the right to do so. Hell, in that situation I would encourage turning off your walky-talky and enjoying every succulent bite. However, eating pizza is like having sex. You just can't be expected to pay attention to anything else while it is going on. You will say or do anything to continue what you are doing without a disturbance. I know this advice might be a little late, but try to save your vices for off hours Officer Fernandez. That's the best way to avoid getting blood on your hands while you were licking tomato sauce off your fingers.

It's a goddamn epidemic.
