People Are Upset That Auschwitz Installed 'Gas Chamber-Like' Misting Showers To Cool Down Visitors9/1/2015 FOX- The proprietors of the Auschwitz concentration camp have found themselves in hot water after installing showers in the former Nazi extermination camp in a bid to “cool down” visitors to the onetime slaughterhouse, which is now a museum commemorating the Holocaust.
Mist showers have reportedly been installed at the death camp’s entrance to help tourists battle the high summer temperatures in Poland, where Auschwitz is located. However, for some Jewish visitors to the museum, the showers have evoked harsh memories of the execution of more than 1.1 million at the death camp, many of whom were murdered by being marched into showers filled with poison gas. “Israel visitors to the museum could not ignore the connotation of showers being put in place at a site where more than a million Jews were murdered by the Nazis in gas chambers during the Holocaust,” Israel Hayom reported on Monday. I'll say this, I don't have much experience with gas chambers, but something tells me that if you think that a misting shower closely resembles a gas chamber then you might have a glorified view of what a gas chamber was. I'd love to line up every single person that was upset by these showers and ask them the last time they were in a functional gas chamber. I don't want to put words in anyone's mouth, but considering they are all still alive, I feel comfortable saying it was probably never. For someone to be traumatized by an event wouldn't they have to be present for said event? This is like claiming that you are afraid of water because your grandfather almost drowned as a child. I could be way off here, but I'm going to guess that a large majority of those offended weren't, at any period of their lives, prisoners of Auschwitz. I guess this is just what society has become now. You can't go to the site where the Nazis killed damn near a MILLION people, without finding something new and arbitrary to get upset about. Fuck honoring those that unceremoniously passed before us, let's worry about how these showers, that are making sure I don't have a heat stroke, make me feel. That's the real takeaway from Auschwitz. Forgive me if I am wrong, but if you didn't want to be subjected to the harsh memories of the Holocaust then maybe coming to the site of the most infamous death camp wasn't the greatest vacation spot? That's like complaining that you can't get over your ex-girlfriend while you are scouring her Facebook page. You took a trip to AUSCHWITZ, not Six Flags Great Adventure. If you wanted everything to be sunshine and rainbows you should have taken the family to a candy store, not a concentration camp. I don't want to kick these overly sensitive assholes when they are down, but someone has to let them know that they might see some unpleasant things inside the place too. If a shower meant for the well being of others reminds them of genocide then I can't imagine how they'll react when they see some pictures of the reprehensible things that took place there. I've never been, but I imagine Auschwitz is one of those places were you have to accept before hand that the rest of your day is probably going to be pretty shitty after exploring one of the most horrific phenomenons in human history. These people literally picked the only thing at Auschwitz that has any ability whatsoever to make people smile, and choose THAT to get offended by.
