I am fairly confident that Wade Phillips is content with his role as defensive coordinator of a team that won a Super Bowl almost solely by piggy backing the efforts of his unit. After all, it's become widely accepted that he is one of the best the league has to offer when it comes to that job description. Still, Wade Phillips is a football coach and if I know anything about coaching football it's that the people who do it yearn to have their job title preceded by the word 'Head'. As carefree as it he seems there is still a part of him that is bothered by the fact that he couldn't succeed as the chief leader of an NFL franchise. Well - bless his undoubtedly oversized heart - because nothing will remind him of his failure to do so quite like having Jostens' Jewelers not even pay enough attention to get his name even remotely right. When I first heard they screwed up his ring I thought they only put one 'L' in 'Phillips' or something, but sending him a ring engraved with any old, relatively common last name that starts with a 'P' like he's the 53rd man on the roster? What a complete and total lack of respect for a guy that arguably had a bigger effect on the Broncos playoff run than the man that supersedes him in authority. There's not a doubt in my mind that he took this mistake in stride, but I know that he knows that there was no chance in hell they would ever completely mangle 'Kubiak'.
