YardBarker- Ryan Johansen debuted an incredible Columbus Blue Jackets-themed sports court back in August 2015, but it will need a new paint job after Wednesday’s big news.
The Blue Jackets and Predators shocked the NHL world when Columbus sent Johansen to Nashville in exchange for defenseman Seth Jones, leaving the center with a now worthless sports court. You know when you walk into a store and you randomly see a t-shirt that you just absolutely have to have? Maybe you hit the changing room to try it on, and it just so happens to fit perfectly? You know you are leaving the store with that t-shirt, but at the same time you know that after you put it through the washer a few times you are undoubtedly going to shrink it to the point that it makes you look like you stole your bulimic younger brother's gym clothes? You still buy that shirt, but you are aware upon doing so that it's just a few short spin cycles away from being rendered obsolete. You couldn't be more certain that once that bad boy hits the dryer it's next stop is 'Good Will', but that doesn't mean you won't wear the shit out of it while you still can. Ryan Johansen purchasing a Columbus Blue Jackets themed all purpose sports facility for his backyard is the professional athlete equivalent of that t-shirt. He knew this was going to happen, just look at the hashtag. Sure, it was in jest, but deep down Ryan Johansen knew that he was inevitably going to get traded. He knew that investment was only good for the short term. I bet his use of "can't trade me now" probably expedited the process by at least a month. Negotiations probably didn't even begin until some loudmouth intern did an investigative search of his social media. Regardless, as soon as he posted that tweet he was on borrowed time. I certainly don't blame him. If I had his bank account I would probably be buying up personalized basketball/hockey courts instead of cotton, shrink susceptible shirts. However, I can't say that I don't know how he's feeling right now and chances are that you can't either. Live look at Ryan Johansen looking out his back window...
