Sean Avery's "New Thing" Is Waking Up Homeless People And Asking Them For The Time

It's almost like we should have seen this coming. Like, if you had told me "there is one former NHLer that wanders the streets hunting out sleeping homeless people to ask them for the time and then posting the interactions on SnapChat" I'm pretty sure the name Sean Avery would have involuntarily shot from my mouth. Why wouldn't it? I can't think of any other hockey player that was so desperate for attention that he would use those that don't have a pot to piss in to get it.

In a weird way, I kind of respect that he hasn't let a decade of scrutiny change him. I appreciate that not even a career shortened by self indulgently acting like he's more important than he is could get him to deviate from his nauseatingly narcissistic persona. It takes a true commitment to continue to be a douchebag when being a douchebag has already cost you oh-so-many job opportunities. Sure, I'm appalled that Sean Avery - the guy that only stopped running his mouth to run from fights in his playing days  - is picking on the most vulnerable demographic of people that society has to offer. However, the best thing that you can be is yourself. So, with that in mind, I'm also rather impressed that he's managed to reach the peak of his person in the process - no matter how insufferable and detestable the result happens to be. A guy that needs to illicit the definition of harassment to prove that he's not guilty of it may be a dickhead, but he's a dickhead that accepts and embraces his role as such. That has to count for something...as long as that "something" isn't self respect.
