There's gotta be a video. Please tell me there's a video. Save for a punt block turned touchdown that sent the freshly recovering city of New Orleans into complete and utter pandemonium, this might be my favorite Steve Gleason moment of all time. Not just because he said something derogatory and being inappropriate in public is always funny, but because it proved that he hasn't let a disease as debilitating as ALS win. It may have taken his body, but it hasn't taken his mind. It hasn't taken his heart. It hasn't taken his personality. Steve Gleason is every bit the reckless, charismatic special teamer with the flowing locks and flare for the dramatic that he was back in his playing days. We saw it when he eviscerated a low-life Falcons fan off of social media last year with a burn that would make the Monday morning after Memorial Day seem manageable, and apparently he portrayed it again last night by shaming Sean Payton for a lack of emotional control. Don't let the wheelchair and the computerized voice fool you, Steve Gleason is a whole hell of a lot more than a spokesperson for the most degenerative of diseases. He's still a goddamn human being with thoughts, feelings, and - apparently - a sense of comedic timing that would make your favorite comedian's favorite comedian tip his cap. A witty little retort at the expense of his former coach and - more importantly - dear friend should be just enough to remind us to never stop let Steve Gleason's undying perseverance stop inspiring us. He truly is the greatest possible example of a triumphant human spirit, and it's clear that even he would want us to drink to that...
Join Team Gleason, there's plenty of room on the roster. No White Flags.
