So I’ve just had a night I will never forget… My morning started with a visit to see my newborn baby girl JJ at the hospital in San Diego. I left the hospital to catch a flight to Newark to join my team today for OTA practices. This is where it gets crazy. All flights into Newark were cancelled due to thunderstorms so my flight had to reroute to DC. We didn’t land til 11pm. It was already too late to train or bus to NJ, so I rented a car so I don’t miss practice today. 3 hours into my trip at 3:30am I run into a massive body of water on the NJ turnpike, I hydroplane, slam into the median, get blasted in the face by the air bags. My rental is totaled, and I walked out without a scratch. I am feeling so incredibly blessed. Not only has God given my family and I a beautiful, healthy 10 pound baby girl. He sent his guardian angels to keep my car from flipping and possibly dying. So, I call 911 and the finest Highway Patrol in America, the NJ State Police come to the rescue and offer me a ride back to Hoboken. These guys didn’t do it because they were football fans, they didn’t even know who I was or what I do. I’m super proud to have always been a supporter of the NY/NJ Police and Fire Departments. So I want to give a #GIANT thank you to Officer Adam Brozek and his partner Officer Kim Smith for coming to my aid in my time of need, and going that extra step further for driving me 45 miles home. God saved me, and the NJ State Troopers delivered me. Now I’m home shaking like a leaf, trying to pack my bag to go to practice. I’m so thankful to even be walking right now. #GodIsGood #Blessed Thank you again to the NJ State Police! #GodBlessYouBoys
Jesus Steve. I appreciate your dedication to your profession, but maybe take your foot off the gas, both literally and figuratively, for second. You just had a baby daughter. Cherish that shit. As a single person that is about 12 steps of maturity away from being ready for a child, I can't definitively say that is one of the best days of your life, but that's the word on Sesame Street. The Giants have enough problems. I highly doubt one of their main concerns is replacing one of the best punters in the NFL. Maybe pull the paternity leave card for a day. Missing a couple reps of coffin corners isn't going to jeopardize your future. Once you got rerouted to DC you should have shot Coughlin the obligatory 'not gonna make it' text, and had a couple of cold ones to settle down. Maybe take up the airline on that whole free hotel room they undoubtedly offered you. Use the fitness amenities. God knows you were dying to. Settle down and take in life for a minute. I have to imagine his wife wanted to beat his ass when she found out he got into a car accident. Couple hours ago they were bringing someone into the family, and Steve's already trying to take someone out of the family. For OTA's of all things. Don't be so selfish Steve. You're a goddamn father now. You can't just do whatever is best for you, even if it is in regards to your profession. When there is so much working against you to get somewhere that you don't really have to be you need to take the hint. Maybe it's not the greatest idea to drive in a monsoon while your wife is clutching your brand spanking new baby girl. I may not have the maturity thing down pat, but I'll be damned if I don't know that's an irresponsible thing to do. I'm glad you're alright, but be smarter next time. You've got a young mind to help form and day one you are already setting a bad example. P.S. I'm sorry I was so critical. Please don't beat me up...
