Lock 'em up! Defense wins championships. Let's just forget that Jordan had a subpar year last year. Last year doesn't count. Slate clean. No one on the defense was as bad as they played last year, with the exception of Corey White and possibly Patrick Robinson. It wouldn't be fair to not give the defensive line a little bit of a pass with how porous the secondary was. Fact is Cam has 20 sacks and 29 hurries combined the last two years and that includes a down year last year. Cameron Jordan is great against the run, great at patting passes down at the line of scrimmage, and great at getting to the quarterback. All things considered there isn't much more you can ask out of a 3-4 defensive end. He will need to be the lynchpin on a defensive line that looks to regain it's 2013 form, but he absolutely has the talent and motor to bet 60 million over the next 5 years on. He's top 5-10 player at his position and he's only 26 years old. Locking him up now before free agency next year removes any potential distraction that could have been caused this year. If you had to give a definitive name when asked who the Saints best defensive player is you would say Cameron Jordan and I have faith that he will prove that we will live up to that label, as well as his contract. Clearly the Saints do too.
Plus, you never want to forget the intangibles. Not only is Cam Jordan a great locker room guy, but he has a sweet sack dance. That alone is worth a couple extra million a year. Can't wait to see this revamped defense take it up a level on Sundays. WHO DAT!
