Thank God Someone Said It, Zajac Speaks Out Against Yellow Boards

Yahoo- Since hockey fans unanimously love those CGI advertisements on the netting behind the goals – and we hope you can taste the bitter tang of sarcasm here – the NHL is experimenting with new ways to add CGI ads during television broadcasts. One new option, tested at the New York Islanders game at the New Jersey Devils on Thursday: Adding a yellow tint to the boards, in order to create a “green screen” effect.

“I don’t like that,” Zajac said. “Is it going to stay like that? I didn’t like it, hated it actually. I thought it was stupid. It doesn’t look right. You get used to it, but I still don’t like looking at it. That’s my opinion.”

You know when you are trying too hard and ruining something that doesn't need to be ruined? When Travis fucking Zajac speaks out against it. I don't think Zajac has said a hurtful word in his life. Pretty sure he has saved at least 12 kittens from trees. Kissed so many babies he needs a Burt's Bees sponsorship. Responsible for more smiles than a family photographer. He is more innocent than Miley Cyrus pre-drugs. You see the above GIF? It's like the first time I heard the Beatles. Made me fall in love with him all over again.

So yeah, that guy. The one I just waxed poetic about, said that he HATES the new boards. I'm fairly certain he has never said he hates anything in his entire life. If you asked Travis Zajac about ebola he would probably tell you he strongly dislikes it. That's how bad the boards are. Zajac calling the boards 'stupid' is like a normal person saying that they are a fucking disgrace to the sport.

Truth be told, I walked into the Prudential Center last night, stopped for the obligatory beer, and headed to my seats. Glanced down quickly at the ice and just had that 'something is different' feeling. Closed my eyes, did a little head shake, and sure enough, I am not losing my vision at age 28. The boards were yellow. Not neon yellow, not sunshine yellow, piss stained mattress yellow. What a fucking eye sore. 

Listen I don't care about CGI ads. I don't care about any ads. Obviously there is money to be made. However, there has to a better way to do it then making the entire outskirts of the rink look like a white t-shirt that hasn't been washed in 2 years. There just has to. I'm not saying it ruined the game for me. I am saying it ruined the game for us. Travis and I refuse to stand for this. We want our white boards and we want them now. Can't have the whole rink looking like the dog pissed on the carpet.

You don't want to upset this guy...
