PFT- No press release has been issued, but Monday brought about the end of the line for 10 members of the coaching staff in San Francisco.
Gone, per a source with knowledge of the situation, are offensive coordinator Geep Chryst (pictured), quarterbacks coach Steve Logan, receivers coaches Adam Henry and Ronald Curry, secondary coach Tim Lewis, defensive line coach Scott Brown, defensive assistants Ejiro Evero and Aubrayo Franklin, and offensive assistants T.C. McCartney and Joe Scola. Defensive coordinator Eric Mangini continues to be employed, but multiple reports indicate that Texans assistant Mike Vrabel will interview for the job. With Kelly counting Patriots coach Bill Belichick as a close friend, the notion of keeping Belichick enemy Mangini is a bit surprising; hiring a Belichick favorite like Vrabel would make a lot more sense. Either way, Kelly will be hiring plenty of assistants soon, with 10 spots officially created already this week. I don't know about you guys, but I'm excited. Couldn't be more ready for 'Chip Kelly: The Sequel'. Mostly just because -like most sequels- it has a high probability of being drastically worse than the original. If this decision to shove literally their entire staff out the door in one fell swoop is any indication we aren't getting some castrated version of Chip Kelly. In fact, we may be getting Chip Kelly on steroids. At the very least we'll be seeing the same brash, arrogant asshole that tore down Philly one talented African American at a time (kidding, kind of). Either his offensive strategy works this time around and city of Philadelphia collectively commits suicide (win), or it crashes and burns and we all get to revel in the flames again (win). Either he and Colin Kaepernick are a match made in heaven, or their a match made in Pac-12 hell. Those results sound equally and oppositely entertaining to me. If his first few seasons in the NFL have proven anything it's that he's not afraid to follow his instincts, and the sadist in me hopes that yields similarly tragic results.
