“I believe you should be [allowed], so I’ll be wearing mine for the game… There are a lot of things I guess they should or shouldn’t do. It’s just one of those things where it is what it is. I guess at some point there were going to be two teams at any given week that wouldn’t be playing, so you kind of get screwed in that sense. That just happened to be us.” - Jason McCourty Classic NFL. Of course the week they decided to pretend that they embrace personalities, individuality, and philanthropy happens to be a week in which a couple of teams didn't play. What a shame. It's almost like they aren't the ones setting the schedules or something. I mean, they could have completely avoided having two entire rosters upset with them by pushing back #MyCauseMyCleats seven whole days to when bye weeks were no longer a concern, but are you really surprised that they didn't have the foresight to do so? Even when they choose to finally do something smart their execution leaves you scratching your head asking "how could a multi-bajillion dollar company be so fucking stupid?". I genuinely think they enjoy the endless stream of criticism because there's no other excuse for being so painfully unaware of your own calendar and wayyyyy too hard headed to make a few harmless exceptions to fix your own fuck up. A fun little tradition (that should quite obviously be allowable at all times anyway) that supported a wealth of fantastic causes and managed to make the NFL appear mildly open-minded and they still found a way to come out of it looking like they lack elementary level common sense. UPDATE: It required the NFL to do a lot of super critical thinking first, but the Browns and Titans are now allowed to wear custom cleats in Week 14. Huge mistake in my opinion. Roger Goodell showing a crack in his armor by overturning his original decision doesn't bode well for the rest of his impending stupid decisions going forward.
