PuckDaddy-  A happy birthday tweet towards troubled forward Evander Kane by the Buffalo Sabres seemed to be erased Tuesday before the team posted another happy birthday message later in the day.

This prompted online questioning on why the Sabres decided to post the tweets during a week Kane has been involved in legal drama.

Now THAT is how you wish someone a happy birthday! Who cares that the "someone" in question happens to your enigmatic forward that's completely besieged by legal troubles. Nothing makes the general public forget about someone's character flaws and completely tarnished reputation quite like reminding them that he was born on that particular date some two and half decades ago. Everyone loves a birthday boy...even if the mere mention of his name brings up a discussion about his impending charges.

That's why the Buffalo Sabres almost had to send out the same tweet twice. It wasn't because they posted it the first time, deleted it in a panic after seeing a little backlash, talked it over as a group, and then decided that a misdemeanor and a handful of non-criminal allegations weren't enough to refrain from acknowledging someone's special day on the internet. No sir. They just wanted to maximize the amount of eyes that saw that it was Evander Kane's birthday and what better way to achieve that the tweet the same exact thing multiple times within the hour?

You can't criticize a man on the day he was brought into this world...which makes yesterday the one day - out of all 365 - that Evander Kane should have been safe from well deserved scrutiny. It's a shame that SOME people had to ruin that by debating whether or not it was smart to relight the proverbial candles for a guy that may or may not have assaulted a female after a couple of drinks.
