The Family Of Walter Scott Told Al Sharpton To Pound Sand, Or Something Like That

NY Daily News- Stay away, Rev. Al.

That was the message from the family of South Carolina police shooting victim Walter Scott to the civil rights activist Thursday two days before the funeral for the slain father of four.

“We don’t want another Ferguson type of circus here,” a source close to the Scott family told The Daily News.

That was a reference to the Missouri town that was rocked by violent demonstrations last year after black teen Michael Brown was killed by a white cop.

Sharpton gave a rousing speech at the 18-year-old’s funeral, which was attended by thousands.

Scott family attorney Chris Stewart said they appreciate Sharpton’s support but “the funeral is only going to be close family members.”

Wait, wait, wait…you can just tell Al Sharpton not to get involved? It’s as easy as that? Do black people know this? Someone release a public service announcement ASAP. I thought Al Sharpton getting involved was a necessary evil. Death, taxes, Al Sharpton under minding predominantly African American causes. To be quite honest, I thought it was in his job description. I thought Al Sharpton got picked by the blacks in the racial draft and they signed him to a life long, guaranteed contract. Turns out they can just cut him like he’s an aging, oft injured running back? Al Sharpton stepping to the mic after a tragedy is like Alex Rodriguez stepping into the batter’s box after a steroid scandal. Even those people on his ‘team’ expect a less than desirable outcome.

If Al Sharpton’s goal is to put an end to prejudice he can start by digging a hole and hiding in it for the rest of eternity. A general distaste for anything and everything Sharpton has to say is something all races have in common. His unlikability is all assimilating. If we congregated as a society and realized that the Reverend speaks for no one but himself, the world would be at least a mildly less racist place. How much would we have to pay Kanye to get on TV and say "Reverend Al Sharpton doesn't like white people"? Whatever it is, it's worth it.

You know when there is an anti-gay rally and a couple thousand people show up, meanwhile the rest of the rest of the world is walking around shocked that people like them actually exist? That’s extremely comparable to an Al Sharpton press conference. Generally speaking, you can just assume everyone in the world that agrees with his principles is present for his meaningless diatribe. Essentially being an Al Sharpton supporter is like being homophobic. It’s time we all realize those sects of people are the vast, vast minority. They don’t need to get a say, nor do they deserve one. The family of Walter Scott asking Al Sharpton to kick rocks is a step in the right direction. It’s far easier to resolve controversy if we just locked him in a basement during periods of racial unrest.
