Washington Times- A “Bias-Free Language Guide” used by the University of New Hampshire includes “American” in a list of “problematic” words.
“American” joins “illegal alien,” “mothering,” “fathering,” and a collection of other words that are frowned upon by the university, education watchdog Campus Reform reported Tuesday. The online guide suggests that students who wish to discuss a topic that would require using “American” instead use phrases such as “U.S. citizen” or “Resident of the U.S.” The guide recommends against the term because it “assumes the U.S. is the only country inside” the continents of North and South America. UNH’s “Bias-Free Language Guide” also includes sections on how to navigate “microaggression,” and gender issues. Those aggressions are broken down into the categories “micro-assault,” “micro-insult,” and “micro-invalidation.” “Micro-aggressions hold a lot of power and especially because of their frequency in our culture. They may appear subtle and harmless, but we must address them if we wish to consider ourselves a truly civil society,” the guide says, suggesting students try to use “micro-affirmations” instead. Finally. I have grown so goddamn tired of having an identity. It's about time the University of New Hampshire took the initial steps in turning us all into nameless, faceless robots. We should all be forced to wear burkas, get tagged with a number, and be able to walk around free of discrimination. Can't let stupid little things like nationalities and traditions get in the way of a carbon-copied population. That's clearly the only way to put an end to this culture of outrage. You can't get offended by someone if everyone is exactly the same. How about the irony of the whitest educational institution outside of Germany creating a 'Bias Free Language Guide'? Was New Hampshire experiencing a huge racial divide? Was it between half of the football team and literally everyone else? I'm surprised their team name isn't the New Hampshire WASPs. Why are they so concerned with offending those that are different when their graduation ceremony strongly resembles the Hitler youth? If you gave every 'non-American' living in this country a map and asked them to pick out New Hampshire they would probably think it was a trick question. If we are going to pick a state to start discussing what words may be offensive to minorities, how about we don't start with the most racially uniform state outside of the Dakotas? This is a really ass backwards country we are living in. I can't tell if we are progressing, regressing, or attempting to do both simultaneously. Every time we "fix" one form of prejudice,we have to create another? Is that what's taking place? Gays are getting married. Girls can be boys. Boys can be girls. White people are trying to become black. Half Jewish Canadians are winning rap battles. Everyone is being granted the ability to be whoever or whatever they want, but New Hampshire's biggest problem is that we all identify as literally the ONLY thing we can all agree on. You can be a caucasian black person that works for the NAACP. You can wake up with a penis, buy some tits, throw on a dress and call yourself Caitlyn. However, don't you dare call yourself a mother, or a father, or an American. That's way too controversial.
