Lance Stephenson has become quite the laughing stock of the NBA and at times - especially like this - it is completely warranted. What I think we don't do enough, however, is give credit where credit is due. Lance Stephenson basically made it to the premier basketball association in all of the world as an 'And 1' street ball player. That's not an easy thing to accomplish. We poke fun at him for making stupid passes and attempting wildly ridiculous moves that have next to no chance of completion when in reality he's not even playing the same sport as everyone else on the floor.
Remember in 'NBA Street' when the actual score of the game only kind of mattered? That's how Lance Stephenson brain works. Whatever the JumboTron says is secondary to the trick shot meter that is constantly fluctuating in his head. Did you see that pass? That was an IMPOSSIBLE pass. Even if he put it right where he wanted to - instead of whizzing past the head of half a dozen cheerleaders - it still wouldn't have resulted in a basket. What it would have resulted in was getting him significantly closer to a 'GameBreaker'. Open mid-range jump shots and drive-and-kick assists are all well and good if you are trying to win an NBA game, but they are relatively meaningless if you are trying to do so in style. People say the mark of a great player is that he sees the game in a way in which others don't, but I think that Lance Stephenson just proved that's a myth, because he has clearly always seen the game like this...
