NYDailyNews- One very well placed source - only clue: he is a HOF player - recently saw Owens in Los Angeles and reported to the Daily News that Owens had a shopping bag next to him when they got together.
What was in the bag? Owens told him it indeed was a custom made gold jacket. What made it so extra special? “T.O. told me he had his career stats on the back of the jacket,” the HOFer told me. “Seriously.” How many times does he have to tell you guys? The message seemed pretty clear the first time around. How could you not take Terrell Owens at his word when he kept repeating - for emphasis only - that he wasn't upset about being snubbed from the 'Hall Of Fame' through a completely genuine, unforced smile...
I'm a little disappointed that others were so skeptical of a former athlete whose words and actions have always been so transparent, but I'm glad he went one step further in making sure that everyone knows just how unbothered he is by having an honor ridiculously withheld from him. When you really think about, nothing shows how much you don't care about being rewarded quite like putting time, effort, and money into recreating the ever-so-fashionable fruits of that reward. Something as superficial as having their head immortalized in bronze can't prove a proud player's worth, and that's why T.O. almost had to go to extreme lengths to get his hands on a much more meaningful token of his success - like a urine colored sports coat. It may be a replica that holds no inherent value whatsoever, but it gives him a placeholder until his inevitable induction that he totally plans on skipping. Sure, his whole point is that his stats speak for themselves, but what harm could stitching them across the back of a worthless jacket do? I'm sure there's a deaf person somewhere that appreciates the most empty of self-indulgent gestures. Some will call this move obsessive, but any self conscious 30 year old woman who has been waiting two years longer than she deems acceptable for a proposal would simply call it proactive. P.S. The "(first to do it w/ 3 different teams)" addition lends credence to the argument of damn near every one of his detractors. Probably should have saved a couple bucks on stitching and left it at "5x First Team All Pro" for his resume's sake.
